Although mainly used by small business clients this service is also available to home users.

Set up a separate 'disposable' i.e. hotmail, googlemail, email address for general use and reserve your main address for restricted (friends and family) use. Once an address has been harvested by spammers it can take a long time, if ever, to remove it from their lists. With a disposable address you can just dump it and set up another.
